Brief history

Coop Himmelblau is a cooperative architectural design firmwhich founded by Wolf D. Prick, Helmut Swiczinsky, and Michael Holzer in Vienna, Austria, in 1968. Coop Himmelblau has their own style of architecture which called Deconstructivist Architecture, actually they invented that style and they are really proud of it. The famous quotation from Coop Himmelblau is 'Architecture Must Burn!', this quotation is really about their own style of architecture which it bleeds, exhausts, turns and even breaks (Basulto, 2013). Coop Himmelblau is located in Vienna, Austria for the first time, but now they already expand their firm to Los Angeles, United States and Guadalajara, Mexico.

Reason and Some Image of BMW Welt

I am choosing Coop Himmelblau as my designer for the rest of this course because i am really interested in their projects that have been done or will be done. In fact, i am a huge fan of modern architecture (or it can be said 'unique' architecture), actually I already know Coop Himmelblau before I was given this assignment. From all amazing buildings that was designed by Coop Himmelblau, the one that I most interested is BMW Welt in Munich, Germany. I am really amazed with the design and the structure of this building. I already did some research about the concept of this building. The key task of the BMW Welt is to deliver cars with all concepts geared toward enhancing the experience of delivery (Arch Daily, 2009). Moreover, there are too many specific concepts about this building, including : sustainability, flexibility, work space, low-tech concept and many more (this link provide a marvelous explanation about this buiding's concept http://www.archdaily.com/29664/bmw-welt-coop-himmelblau/). For the last, I am really excited about exploring and learning more about Coop Himmelblau, and hopefully from it I could increase my design skill and nail this course.

"The Hall's roof system has special significance for the complex made up of heat, cold and air. A 3D simulation of thermal currents and air streams was conducted in order to investigate the spread of exhaust fumes from the cars driven on the Premiere level." (Arch Daily, 2009)
