ARCH1390 - Week 1 - 3D sketching exercise

 First Sketch - Brainstorming

This is the first sketch in ARCH1390 course. The task given (group 2) was about sketching house in 3D with the information given by the tutor. The information given for group 2 was in form of words where the other 2 groups were given in section & elevation and floor plan respectively. The first step that I chose to do this exercise was to read the whole sentences in the notes and try to highlight the important parts and the tricky information. In the general explanation notes that I was given, there were quite lots of new words that I have not heard before such as facade, hipped, gabble, blade wall and many more. After that, I tried to sketch the building one by one (A until F) using the information that I already highlighted. The last thing that I do was  to combine all sketches together and tried to be careful about scaling.

Second Sketch - The House

This is the sketch of the house, unfortunately it is not finished yet. There are several difficulties of doing this, in fact, our group was given the hardest task compare to the other groups. One of the difficulties is connecting building A and building B. It is shown in the notes that building A and building B have the same height but different amount of storey (A is 2-storey building and B is 3-storey building). Another difficulty is due to insufficient information given in the notes. The information which given in the notes is very limited, for instance the explanation about building D and E are just 5 sentences and building F is just 1 sentence, which is highly insufficient. The last one is about the exercise itself, actually this is really the first time I am making 3D-sketch by examining the notes or explanation given in words. Those are the reasons I took quite long to do this exercise and I frequently asked my tutor (Wesley) regarding the meaning of some sentences. Lastly, in my opinion, I learned lots of things after doing this exercise and this exercise is really a great introduction about the aim of this digital representation studio itself.
